Literature Text

An angry wind is coming, blood on the window
and haven't I been here before?
It's a long long time that we've been scraping our fingers
against the bottom of the bowl
and the howling outside just puts me to sleep
There is a lot of this world for us to waste
away

An angry fire is burning, blood on my front door
and what was it I meant to tell you?
It's a hard, hard road that we've been carving behind us
hoping to find one to follow
and the burning inside is what gives me these dreams
There is a lot of ourselves for us to waste
away

But I've been here before
and I've so much to tell you
and all the waste in the world
couldn't make up for this

An angry wind is coming
blood on my hands
haven't posted anything in a while... i guess i haven't written anything i wanted to share until now.

I like this.

One point of critique:

Enjambing 'away' to a line by itself in the first two strophes weakens them.
'Away' by itself has no strength of image, of connotation.
It is an affectation with no benefit to the poem.

However -

"There is a lot of this world for us to waste away"
"There is a lot of ourselves for us to waste away"

- as single lines these do have strength, and lose nothing by being a whole entity with 'away' included.

Anyway, that point aside, I like this.
